Activities for cubs at Kids' Country

Kids Country held their annual Cubs & Beavers event on Saturday 23rd March.

Each year, the event takes a new and exciting theme. Past events include ‘Working with Wood’ where the cubs and beavers experienced willow weaving and made bows & arrows, ‘Minibeasts’ where they learnt about the honey bee and rolled candles out of beeswax, and ‘Birds go Wild’ where the eager children became experts at identifying bird’s nests and made fat-ball bird feeders.

What did they get up to this year?

Cubs and beavers had the opportunity to gain several badges at our ‘Outdoor Countryside’ themed event. The event had four zones of learning. In zone 1, Nene Park showed the cubs and beavers how to identify trees using their leaves and twigs, as well as showing how to create clay leaf prints. Zone 2 was all about animal care with Monach Farm. The cubs and beavers met real goats, discovering how they feed, sleep and why goats are important in farming. There was also a model goat for milking demonstrations and goat’s cheese to taste. In the 3rd zone, children competed to see who could make the best den with PECT. In the final zone, the British Dragonfly Society introduced the cubs and beavers to the wonderful world of dragonflies.
