All muck and money

Kingston Maurward College has launched a brand new fundraising initiative to replace its highly successful annual ‘Muckathon’ muckspreading event which has raised thousands of pounds for charities for 15 years.

The new ‘Sow Your Seed’ event saw Level 3 Extended Diploma in Agriculture students ploughing, muckspreading, cultivating, drilling and sowing maize seed – hence the new name!

This year’s event raised funds for the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution (RABI) – a welfare charity which changes lives for the better and offers financial support to farming people experiencing hardship.

The fundraiser took place over five days starting on Wednesday 25th April. Organisers appealed to local businesses to donate prizes for a tombola which will take place at Kingston Maurward’s annual Open Day & Food Fair on Sunday 24th June.

Before the event, Agriculture Course Manager, John Lockett, said: ‘We wanted to update the event to showcase the professionalism of our students and help deserving causes at the same time. The students are very much looking forward to this, and we expect a lot of friendly rivalry between the teams!’
