The new BDS deer app is packed full of information, but also has tools to support teachers to engage students and children of any age in hands-on learning.
Available on both Apple and Android devices, the FREE 5 star rated app not only has key information on each species of UK deer but it also answers many common questions. This includes covering issues around our deer populations including have to deal with abandoned young, deer in gardens and how to watch deer safely.
Pupils can review the maps from our recent deer surveys to find out which species live in their area. Moreover, they can also go out and survey deer locally using the easy Deer Sightings feature and take part in the BDS citizen science project helping us learn even more about our deer populations.
The app also helps them learn how to identify the deer species and within the sighting area there is an easy to use feature so they can identify the species for themselves by answering a few simple questions.
The app also includes a guide to best practice tips for wildlife photography, ideal for students who may be interested in this area. There is also a venison recipes section with tasty ways to explore venison as an ethical, sustainable and healthy meat source.
Importantly you will also find key advice from PHE on being tick and Lyme disease aware.
