Our new Central Regional Education Consultant Elizabeth Lake organised for 11 PGCE trainee Geography teachers from Nottingham University to visit a farm. The students had the opportunity to see a forest school in action as well as having a tour of the farm and learning about the many ways in which David Rose has diversified.
An edible woodland for example is a project organised in partnership with the Woodland Trust. Over the past four years the Woodland Trust have helped take the environmental management of the farm to a new level with the creation of a silvo-arable scheme which will provide economic, environmental and social benefits to both farm and community.
The trainee teachers developed a wide range of practical strategies to use whilst out on farm visits with their classes from September. They looked at how students can investigate biodiversity and soils and how to encourage young people to develop cartographic skills.
