Getting equipped

Site

  • A safe parking area large enough to accommodate one or two coaches with turning space, or 10 to 15 cars, with easy access to your visitor reception area.
  • A good level of general cleanliness around the farm.
  • Adequate signage and information for visitors.
  • Secure cordon arrangements where it is necessary to keep visitors out of certain areas.

Facilities

  • A secure covered area to leave belongings and to shelter the children from the elements – whether it is cold, wet or very sunny. Posters, children's work and a 'nature table' will make it more interesting.
  • Seating in the covered area either for teaching or eating lunch eg hay bales, tables and chairs. Outdoor seating such as a log circle can also be very useful.
  • Adequate toilet and hand-washing facilities, with additional hand-washing facilities (with liquid soap, warm running water and paper towels) in animal-contact areas, view Code of Practice.
