Nick and Lucy Tyler celebrated at on-farm launch event showcasing sustainable innovation and resilience in agriculture.
In partnership with Corteva Agriscience through its Resilient & Ready programme, we're delighted to announce that Nick and Lucy Tyler—recently named Farmers Weekly’s Mixed Farmer of the Year 2024 and recipients of The Cream Awards’ Climate Positive Agriculture award—have officially joined the LEAF Network as its latest Demonstration Farm showcasing best practice sustainable farming.
The launch of Kingsplay Farming Company Ltd as a LEAF Demonstration Farm was marked with a special on-farm event held on Wednesday 16 April 2025, bringing together over 80 attendees from across the industry - to celebrate the Tylers' commitment to more innovative and sustainable farming solutions, delivered through Integrated Farm Management (IFM).
Attendees were welcomed with an introduction to LEAF’s network of Demonstration Farms and Innovation Centres, the Resilient & Ready initiative, and the Tylers' farming philosophy. A guided farm tour followed, giving visitors the opportunity to explore first-hand the Tylers’ pioneering practices around soil health, biodiversity enhancement, water and nutrient management, community engagement and climate resilience.
The event concluded with a tree planting ceremony, marking the official launch of Kingsplay as a LEAF Demonstration Farm and celebrating a new chapter in the farm's sustainability journey.
Nick and Lucy, a qualified vet, are third-generation farmers running the mixed enterprise in Wiltshire, including a 460-cow dairy herd with 370 dairy replacements, 370 Wagyu cross beef cattle, marketed directly to local butchers, farm shops and a charcuterie company, and arable production that supports a closed-loop, regenerative system. Their commitment to environmental sustainability is embedded throughout the business, from participation in agri-environment schemes and the Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI), to achieving LEAF Marque assurance in 2022.
Through the Resilient & Ready programme—a collaboration between LEAF and Corteva providing training, mentoring and technical support—the Tylers have implemented several pioneering approaches, including the use of biological alternatives to nitrogen fertilisers, more efficient farmyard manure management, and a newly established agroforestry project, funded by a Great Western Community Forest Trees for Climate grant and integrating both silvoarable and silvopasture systems.
As a LEAF Demonstration Farm, the Tylers will continue to inspire and support other farmers by sharing their experiences of putting Integrated Farm Management into practice—focusing on profitable, environmentally responsible farming.
David Webster LEAF CEO, commented:
"Nick and Lucy are shining examples of how innovation, passion, and practical knowledge can come together to shape a truly sustainable future for farming. We are thrilled to welcome them into the LEAF Network and look forward to the valuable insights they will share with the wider farming community."
The Tylers are equally excited about the opportunity to connect with others through the network. Nick Tyler said:
"The Resilient and Ready programme has been invaluable to us and our business and has provided us with so many unique opportunities. We’re proud to be part of a community that’s pushing boundaries in sustainable agriculture. If we can show that positive change is possible—and achievable at scale—then hopefully others will feel empowered to challenge their systems and take steps to farm sustainably for the future too."
