The Farm

The Green House Sussex is a family run business growing a range of top quality vine tomatoes and is one of the largest tomato nurseries in the UK covering 19 acres of glasshouses and supplying a selection of UK retailers.

Activities

The farm has worked hard to reduce their environmental impact through energy efficient boilers, upgrading heating pipes, insulating our heat storage tanks and fitting moveable thermal screens, seeing a significant reduction in energy use.

Waste is reduced wherever possible and all tomato waste is sent for composting. Rainwater is collected from the glasshouses and fed to the on-site reservoir and used for irrigation.

Predatory insects are used to control pests and bumble bees for pollination as part of mitigating the need for artificial plant protection products. Valuable habitat is preserved and enhance around reservoirs, which acts as a food source and nesting site for a wide range of wildlife. Regular monitoring of wildlife and flora on site is carried out as part of ongoing conservation work.
