As well as bringing your pupils to the farm, physically or virtually, our team of teachers and educational consultants also deliver in-school sessions.
This page lists our suite of pre-designed in-school sessions but there’s much more that we can offer. Our Regional Educational Consultants can lead and deliver these sessions, and we can work with you to create bespoke sessions tailored to your school and your pupils’ needs. — A level business studies student
Do you have a group of disengaged boys who need more activities around English? A year 5 class that needs to focus on expanding literacy? Want a taster Business Studies on farm day for year 9? Need to deliver exam specification points for AQA or Edexcel?
As well as tailoring our core in-school sessions to your needs, our team of Regional Education Consultants can develop bespoke sessions for your school at any duration, subject focus or type of activity.
These sessions can be designed to fit various themes or subjects at both primary and secondary level (STEM, Eco Club, Sustainability, Geography, Business Studies etc). During the first session in school pupils will learn about agriculture and food production in relation to the subject area / theme. They will then be set a challenge which they will “investigate” whilst on a farm visit. During the final in school session pupils will “present” their findings to the challenge set during session one.
Learn about the seasons and the seasonal jobs that happen on the farm. From planting to harvesting, lambing to shearing.
Explore the food groups from the Eatwell guide. Find out how one item from each group is produced and take part in a series of practical activities e.g. milling wheat and churning butter.
Delve deeper into your study of evolution by considering artificial selection and domestication. What challenges do the farmers of the future face? What adaptation will their crops and livestock require?
Consider the challenges the agricultural industry is facing and explore the careers this exciting industry offers.
See how food is produced on the farm. Use some of the farm’s produce to create foods we can eat. Activities could include milling flour and baking bread, producing vegetable soup, churning butter, or making ice cream.
Where does our food come from? Practical activities and discussions about farming, how our food is grown, reared and produced, explore the environmental impact of importing food and look at seasonality of UK produce.
Workshops or assemblies can be delivered for Primary or Secondary aged pupils exploring the skills, knowledge and experience needed for careers within the agri-food sector. Explore actual jobs linking back to school subjects. Additionally, CPD sessions can be provided for staff delivering career education and guidance.
These practical sessions can be set up as continuous provision in an indoor or outdoor educational setting. The activities on offer will link to many areas of the EYFS curriculum including Physical development, Communication and Language, PSED, Maths and Understanding the World through food, farming, and natural environment topics.
